their adjournments, they may direct, and when so assembled,
they shall have power from time to time to appoint a president,
treasurer and secretary, to the board of trustees for each district

school ; to make contracts with the professors, or teachers, rela-
tive to the instruction of the scholars to be placed under their
care, and for the payment of their salaries, to examine the pro-
gress of the students and scholars in their learning, to hear and
determine on all complaints and appeals, and upon all matters
touching the discipline and government of the said schools, and
the proper execution of their ordinances ; and generally to
manage the concerns of said schools in like manner as is usually
done for the advancement and advantage of such institutions,
always having in view the designs of the act to which this is a
supplement.

Repeal.
|
SEC. 5. And be if enacted. That all such parts of the original
act to which this is a supplement, as are inconsistent with the
provisions of this act, be, and the same are hereby repealed.
A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, relating to Pensions by County Assessment,
passed at December session, eighteen hundred and thirty -five, chapter
three hundred and seven, so far as the same relates to Charles County.

pensions.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, the trustees of the
poor of Charles county, shall have full power and authority to
receive, and in their discretion to grant or reject applications
from indigent and distressed persons within said county, for

pensions ; Provided, that the allowance to any one person by
said trustees shall in no case exceed the sum of thirty dollars
per annum ; And provided further, that the gross amount of
allowance by said trustees, together with the allowance for the
support of the inmates of the poor-house of said county, includ-
ing all of the incidental expenses of the same, shall not in any
one year exceed the sum of three thousand dollars.

Trustees to
make re-
port.
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
trustees of the poor of Charles county, on or before the third
Monday in June next, and annually thereafter, to report to the
levy court of said county, the probable amount in the judgment
of said trustees, necessary for the relief and support of the poor,
both in and out of the poor-house of said county, together with
a statement in writing exhibiting each general item of expen-
diture, and the amount thereof, a list of the names of the
several out pensioners, with the allowance to each. The num-
ber and names of the inmates of the poor-house at the time of
said report, as also such as may have been in and left subse-
quent to their previous report, and also an account shewing the
gross amount of money received and expended within the same
period.
