BALTIMORE COUNTY.

AN additional SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, passed at December session, eigh-
teen hundred and twenty-six, chapter two hundred and seventeen, pro-
viding for the election of Commissioners for Baltimore County, and
prescribing their powers and duties. — 1839, ch. 23.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, by a supplement of December session, eighteen
hundred and thirty-eight, chapter two hundred and one, it is
provided that the commissioners of Baltimore county, so soon
as they shall have ascertained the amount of tax to be levied
annually on said county, they shall apportion the amount to be
collected in each election district of said county ; And whereas,
it is found to be inconvenient to put the aforesaid act into ope-
ration until a new assessment shall have been made of the real
and personal property of said county ; therefore,

Repeal.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the fourth and fifth sections of the aforesaid supplement, be,
and the same are hereby repealed ; Provided however, that

the commissioners for Baltimore county shall not exceed seven
per centum upon the taxes of the whole county for collection,
and that said commissioners shall give at least ten days notice
by advertising in two of the newspapers in the city of Balti-
more, the time of making their appointments for the collection
of taxes.

Court-house of Baltimore County, and for other purposes, passed
December session, eighteen hundred aud thirty-four, chapter oue hun-
dred fifty-eight.— 1839, ch. 56.

AN ACT to provide for the payment of State Witnesses in Baltimore
County.— 1839, ch. 86.

witnesses.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the commissioners of tax of Baltimore county, be, and
they are hereby authorized and required to levy on the assess-
able property of said county, at the usual time of making the
county levy, annually, such sum of money as may appear, from
the certificates of the clerk of Baltimore county court, to be
due to persons for their attendance as state witnesses at said
court ; which said sums of money shall be paid over to the per-
sons entitled thereto, by the treasurer of said county, in the
same manner as other county charges.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
clerk of Baltimore county court, to make out annually, before
the time of making the county levy, a list of the state witnesses
who have attended at said court, with the number of days they
have attended thereon, and to lay said list before the said com-
missioners of tax.
