WASHINGTON COUNTY.

court, justice of the county court, justice of the peace, or
sheriff, or any one who hath not the qualifications to be a
member of the general assembly, if elected, shall be capable
to be chosen or act as a trustee aforesaid.
SEC. 7. Authorizes an assessment for one year.

purchase
land, &c.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, and their
successors, shall be, and they are hereby authorized, directed
and required, to purchase, in fee simple, by the name aforesaid,
a piece or quantity of land in the said county, not exceeding
seven acres, and situate and being as near and as convenient
as may be to the court-house of said county, and not exceeding
seven miles therefrom, and to agree and contract with a work-
man or workmen to undertake, erect, build, and in a workman-
like manner to complete and finish, on the said land, when so
purchased, a good, strong, sufficient and convenient house, for
the reception of the poor of the said county, and of such va-
grants, beggars, vagabonds and offenders, as shall be committed
thereto by virtue of the act to which this is a supplement, and
they shall appropriate one part thereof, to be called the 'alms-
house, to and for the reception and lodging of the poor of the
said county, and another part or parts thereof, to be called the
work -house, and for the reception and lodging of all such va-
grants, beggars, vagabonds and offenders, as shall be committed
thereto by virtue of the act to which this is a supplement ; and
the aforesaid land and house shall be, and are hereby declared
to be, vested in the said trustees, and their successors, for ever,
for the uses and purposes by this act directed and expressed,
and the act to which this is a supplement.

tor, &c.

SEC. 9. And, to enable the said trustees to purchase the said
land, to erect an alms and work-house thereon, and for other
purposes mentioned and directed in this act, and the act to
which this is a supplement ; Be it enacted, That the said trus-
tees and their successors, be and they are hereby authorized
and empowered, from time to time, as occasion may require,
to draw upon the collector of the said county for all and any
part of the money which shall or may be assessed, levied and
collected, by virtue of this act, and the act to which this is
a supplement, and which shall or may be or remain in the
hands of the said collector.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, or the
major part of them, shall and they are hereby authorized,
directed and required, after the house aforesaid shall be com-
pletely erected and finished, to buy and purchase, for the use
and employment of the poor of said county, and of the vagrants,
beggars, vagabonds and offenders, who shall be committed
thereto by virtue of the act to which this is a supplement,
beds, bedding, working tools, kitchen utensils, cows, horses,
