of Washington county, to keep a ferry from his lands, in said
county, over the Potomac river, to the opposite shore, near or
opposite to the place called the Falling Water; and such
license to renew from time to time, and to fix such rate of fer-
riage as they in their discretion may think proper.

 

SEC. 2. And beit enacted, That the said ferry, when licensed
by the county court aforesaid, shall be forever thereafter deemed
and taken to be a public ferry, and subject to the same regula-
tions as public ferries now are by the existing laws of this state.

AN ACT to establish a Public Ferry across the Potomac River, at Hancock,
in Washington County.— 1836, ch. 109.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this general assembly by the
petition of sundry citizens of Washington county, that the
establishing of a public ferry at Hancock, across the Potomac
river, would greatly conduce to the public convenience; there-
fore,

Preamble.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the commissioners of Washington county, be, and they
are hereby authorized and required to establish or cause to be
established, a public ferry across the Potomac river, opposite
to the town of Hancock, in Washington county, and that the
said commissioners shall have power to fix the rate of tolls or
ferriage, and also to increase or diminish the same from time to
time, in such manner as they shall deem most conducive to the

duties required of him by said commissioners, under the pro-
