QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY.

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act for the protection of Oysters
in the waters of the Eastern Shore of this State, passed at December
session, eighteen hundred and thirty-one, chapter two hundred and
forty-nine, so far as relates to the waters bordering on Queen Anne's
County.— 1836, ch. 186.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, the protection of oysters in the waters of Queen
Anne's county is a subject in which the citizens thereof are
deeply concerned, and the legislature of Maryland, by sundry
laws passed for the protection of oysters within this state, and
by the law to which this is a supplement, have sought to secure
the advantages resulting from that article of trade, which have
fallen short of the object they were designed to accomplish;
And whereas, citizens of this and other states infesting said
waters, have continued to take and carry away oysters in
violation of the laws upon that subject enacted, and it is justly
apprehended that oysters in the waters of this county will be
entirely destroyed ; therefore,

Unlawful to
catch within
300 yards.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, it shall not be law-
ful for any person or persons, other than citizens of Queen
Anne's county, to take, catch, carry away or otherwise destroy
any oysters within three hundred yards of low water mark,
in any of the waters bordering on the shores of said county.

Penalties.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if any person or persons
shall be found guilty of the violation of this act, or any part
thereof, he, she, or they shall be subject to all the liabilities
and penalties of the act to which this is a supplement.

Repeal

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That so much of the act to which
this is a supplement, as is inconsistent with the provisions of
this act, be, and the same are hereby repealed, so far as relates
to Queen Anne's county.

POOR.
AN ACT for the relief of the Poor of Queen Anne's County. — 1788, ch. 15.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, many of the inhabitants of Queen Anne's county,
by their humble petition to this general assembly, have set
forth, that the taxes for the support of the poor of their county
are very heavy and burthensome, but are notwithstanding, un-
der the present regulation, inadequate to the comfortable sub-
sistence of said poor ; that a work-house has become necessary
for the reception and employment of beggars, vagrants and
vagabonds; and that the free school of the said county does
not answer the purposes of its institution ; and have therefore
prayed, that an act may pass to appropriate the said free school,
with the land and funds belonging to the same, to the use of an
alms and work-house for the said county ;
