FREDERICK COUNTY.

 

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act to enlarge the powers of the
Trustees of the Poor in the several Counties therein designated — 1809,
ch. 84.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall and may be lawful for the trustees of the pool in
the several counties of this state in which poor-houses have
been established, Harford county, Queen Anne's county, Dor-
chester county, Anne Arundel county, Caroline county, Cecil
county and Calvert county, excepted, and they are heteby
authoiized and empowered, in their disci etion, to keep any
number of out-pensioners, not exceeding twenty in any one
county at one time, in addition to the number already provided
for by the act to which this is a supplement, upon the same
terms, and under the same circumstances, as are prescribed by

the said original act; Provided, that nothing in this act shall
be construed to limit the number of out-pensioners which the
trustees of the poor in Somerset county are authorized as afore-
said to keep under an act of assembly passed at November ses

sion, eighteen hundred and eight,* entitled, an act to enlarge
the powers of the trustees of the poor in Somerset county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the trustees of the poor of
the several counties in which this act is intended to operate,
are hereby authorized and empowered, if in their judgment
they shall think it most advantageous fot the interest of the
county, and for the accommodation of the poor of said county,
to contract with any person or persons for the maintenance of
said poor by the year, the said person or pet sons giving bond,
with security, to the trustees of the poor of said county, in
such penalty as said trustees may require, for the faithful per-
formance of the conditions and obligations thereof.

SEC. 1. De it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the office of the present trustees of the pooi of Fredeiick
county, shall cease and be at an end on the first Monday of
June next; and the appointment of the ti ustees of the pooi of
said county, shall, from and after the first Monday of May next,
be vested in the levy court of said county.

SEC. 2. And fee it enacted, That the levy court of Frede-
rick county shall be, and they are hereby authorized and re-
quired, at their first meeting in May next, and at their first
meeting in the month of May in each succeeding year there-
after, to appoint five discreet and proper persons, qualified
agreeably to the provisions of the original act and the supple-
ments thereto, and of this act, to be trustees of the poor of the
said county from and after the first Monday of June next.
