SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all fines imposed by this
act shall be recovered in the name of the state, before a justice
of the peace for the county aforesaid, one-half of which fine
shall be appropriated to the informer, and the other half to the
levy court of Cecil county, for the use of said county.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the first day of September next, all the
provisions of the act to which this is a supplement, shall be,
and they are hereby extended to Cecil county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That from and after the first day
of September next, it shall be the duty of any owner or pro-
prietor of any mill-dam over which any public road doth or
shall pass, to cause to be placed and put upon and along both
sides of such dam, at his own expense, good and sufficient
posts and side railings, of the size, dimensions and description)
mentioned and prescribed in the act to which this is a supple-
ment, in regard to bridges, and the same, from time to time, to
keep in good order and repair ; and for a neglect or refusal so
to do, such owner or proprietor, shall forfeit and pay such

AN ACT to prevent Horse-Racing in the Public Roads of Cecil County
1837, ch. 282.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this general assembly, by the
petition of sundry citizens of Cecil county, that the town of
Elkton, and adjacent neighbourhood, has been very much an-
noyed by the practice of running horse races in the public
highways, thereby endangering the lives of travellers, ob-
structing the public roads, and collecting large assemblies of
gamblers, and attended with drunkenness and all its attendant
vices, destroying the morals and injuring the character of our
community ; therefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act it shall not be lawful
for any person or persons whatsoever, to run any race or races
with any horse, mare or gelding for any wager or wagers on
the public roads or streets in said county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That any person or persons
offending against the provisions of this act shall, on conviction
before any justice of the peace for said county, be fined a sum
of money not less than twenty dollars for each and every
offence, besides costs of prosecution.
