JURORS AND LEVY COURT.

one constable in the hundreds in each county, adjoining to the
Bald Friar ferry, on the Susquehanna river, whose duty it shall ]
be to examine every fish pot erected in the river, at least once '
a week in the season the young shad usually descend the river,
and in case they shall find any pot or pots erected in the river,
not constructed according to the provisions of the act to which
this is a further supplement, or the supplement itself, or in
case the bottom of any pot shall be covered with a basket, or
any other device whatsoever, so as to close the opening that is
directed by the supplement aforesaid to be left, whereby the
young shad may be destroyed, they shall give information
thereof to any justice of the peace in the county of Harford or
Cecil, wherein the owner of such pot shall reside or be found,
who shall issue his warrant, upon the information of said con-
stable, or any other person, on oath or affirmation, to apprehend
such owner, to be taken before some justice of the peace for
the county, and compelled to enter into recognizance for his
appearance at the next county court, there to be proceeded
against by indictment, and upon conviction or confession
thereof, to be fined by the court a sum not exceeding sixty
dollars for every such offence, one-half to the constable afore-
said, or such other person as shall prosecute for the same, and
the other half to be applied to the use of the county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the constables so as afore-
said to be appointed, shall, for the discharge of the duties im-
posed on them by this act, to be verified upon oath, be allowed
each a sum of money not exceeding sixteen dollars, in the dis-
cretion of the respective levy courts, to be levied, collected
and paid over, as other county charges are levied, collected
and paid.

AN ACT for the better payment of the Jurors and Justices of the Levy
Court in Cecil County. —1823, ch. 10.

Their
allowance.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
each and every juror summoned on the regular panel of
jurors to Cecil county courts, who shall reside more than eight
miles from the place of holding the said court, shall, in addition
to the per diem allowed him by law, be entitled to an allowance
often cents for every mile more than eight miles, he shall travel
in going to and returning from the court, likewise that each and
every justice of the levy court, who shall reside more than
eight miles from the place of holding their courts, shall, in
addition to the per diem allowed him by law, be entitled to an
allowance of ten cents for every mile, more than eight miles he
shall travel in going to and returning from each court, to be
levied, collected and paid, in (he same manner and at the same
time with his per diem allowance; Provided, that the said
