BALTIMORE COUNTY.

 

place for the reception of said children when taken up, and to
extend the powers vested in the justices of the peace, to the
trustees and ward and district managers of the poor in the city
and county of Baltimore :

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the justices of the peace for the city and county of Balti-
more, the trustees of the poor of Baltimore city and county, the
ward managers of the poor in the city of Baltimore, and the dis-
trict managers of poor in Baltimore county, for the time being,
shall individually have and exercise the power and authority to
arrest, or cause to be arrested, and taken up, either in the city or
oounty of Baltimore, any child or children who is or are desti-
tute or suffering for want of support, or may be found begging
about the streets of the city of Baltimore, and the child or chil-
dren of beggars, and to send them, at the expense of the city or
county, as the case may be, to the poor house of Baltimore
county, there to be supported till they can be bound apprentices,
either to farmers, mechanics or other suitable persons, at the dis-
cretion of the trustees, and the said trustees are hereby invested
with as full powers in relation to the children above mentioned,
as they now possess and exercise in regard to other children
under their care.

 

ASSESSMENT.
The act of 1832, ch. 130, sec. 1, entitled, 'an Act for the valuation of
real and personal property in Baltimore County, out of the limns of the
city,7 requires the valuation to be made in the manner prescribed by the
act of 1812, ch. 191, emitted, 'an Ace for the valuation of real and per
sonal property in the several counties of this state '
The 5th section of that act has reference to the act of 1785, ch. 53, en-
titled, 'an Act to ascertain the value of the land in the several counties of
this state, for the purpose of laying the public Assessment.' These acts
will be here re-printed.
The modifications of them, by local laws, will be distributed to the
various counties to which they respectively appertain.

AN ACT to ascertain the value of the Land in the several Counties of this
State, for the purpose of laying the Public Assessment -—1785, ch. 53.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, this general assembly, being fully satisfied of the
great inequality that has hitherto taken place in the valuation of
lands between the several counties of this state, and impressed
with the necessity of preventing the like injustice in future,
have determined to ascertain by law the aveiage value by the
acre of the land in the several counties of this state.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the average of land by the acre in the seveial counties be
as follows, to wit: In Kent county at thirty three shillings and
nine-pence, in Prince George's county at thirty-one shillings
and sixpence, in Baltimore county at twenty-nine shillings. and
