BALTIMORE CITY.

 

AN additional SUPPLEMENT to the ACT, entitled, an Act for the better
regulation of the Militia in the City of Baltimore.— 1825, ch. 56.
See note to the preceding act.

Brigade of
volunteers.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a light brigade of uniformed volunteers, shall be and is
hereby formed with the usual field and other officers ; and the
said brigade shall be called the First Light Brigade of Maryland
Volunteers, and shall be attached to, and form a part of the third
division.

Composed
of.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said brigade shall consist
of one regiment of riflemen, one regiment of light infantry, and
one regiment of cavalry.

Rifleman.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the 'First Regiment of
Riflemen,' be, and the same form a part of the said regiment of
riflemen, and that it be called by the same name and attached
to the said brigade.

Infantry.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the companies known by
the names of the First Baltimore Light Infantry — Independent
Company — Mechanical Volunteers — Baltimore United Volun-
teers — Columbian Volunteers — Independent Volunteers — Wash-
ington Guards — Independent Blues — and Lafayette Cadets, be,
and the same form a part of the said regiment of light infantry,
and that it be called the Fifth Regiment of Volunteer Infantry,
with the usual field and other officers, and attached to the said
brigade.

Cavalry.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said regiment of cavalry
hereby authorized to be raised, to be attached to the brigade as
aforesaid, shall be called the First Light- Cavalry Regiment of
Baltimore Volunteers, with the usual field and other officers ;
and the recommendation and appointment of officers for the
same, be made, and the regulations followed agreeably to the
rule as laid down in the seventh section of the act to which this
is a supplement.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That whenever the foregoing
companies of light infantry, and the regiment of riflemen shall
have complied with the requisitions of this act, and recommend
the general, field and other officers for the organization of said
brigade, the governor and council shall issue commissions re-
quisite to carry the same into effect.

How re-
commended

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all the officers to be ap-
pointed in said brigade shall in every instance be recommended
to the consideration of the governor and council, previously to
such appointment in the manner following, to wit : The briga-
dier-general shall be recommended by the colonels, lieutenant-
colonels, and majors of the regiments of said brigade or a ma-
jority of them present at the meeting called for the purpose ; the
colonels shall be recommended by the lieutenant-colonel, majors
