BALTIMORE CITY.

 

AN additional SUPPLEMENT to the ACT, entitled, an Act authorizing the
appointing Inspectors and Wood-Corders, and to regulate the Cording of
Fire-Wood brought by water to the City of Baltimore, for sale. — 1821,
cb. 101.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the passage of this act, the governor, by and
with the advice and consent of the council, shall appoint four
additional inspectors and corders of the fire-wood brought by
water to the city of Baltimore for sale; and the same additional
inspectors and corders aforesaid shall be subject to all the pro-
visions of the act to which this is an additional supplement.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the mayor of the city of Baltimore be, and he is hereby
authorized and directed, at any time after the passage of this
law, and before the first Monday of April next ensuing, to
divide the city of Baltimore into as many districts for the pur-
poses of this act, as there are wood-oorders apportioned for the
said city, making the said districts as nearly equal as may be
with regard to the quantity of fire-wood usually landed or de-
posited therein, at wharves, wood -yards, or other places of de-
posite in the city of Baltimore, for the purpose of sale.
SEC., 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of each
and every wood-corder in the said city, to repair to the office of
the mayor thereof, on the first Monday of April next, and on
every other Monday thereafter, at such hour as the said mayor
may appoint; at which time the said mayor shall assign to each
of said wood-corders, the district in which he shall act during
the ensuing two weeks, so that the said wood -corders may act
in rotation in the said districts, and ihat no wood-corder shall
ac|, in the same district for any four weeks in succession.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if any wood-corder shall
inspect or cord wood in any other district than that which shall
have been assigned to him for the time being, by the said mayor,
(except in the absence of another wood-corder from his proper
district,) such wood-corder, so inspecting or cording wood, shall
forfeit and pay the sum of two dollars for every cord of wood so
inspected or corded by him, and $o iu proportion for any less
quantity; the said penalty to be recovered as small debts now
are, by suit in the name of the state of Maryland ; one-half of
the said penalty to be paid to the informer, and one half to the
state of Maryland.
