SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the book-keeper shall keep

SEC. 9. And be it enacted. That the directors, warden, assis-

shall perform and discharge all and singular the duties that may

be assigned them respectively by this or any subsequent act of
|

assembly, or by the rules and regulations of the board of direc-

tors, hereafter to be adopted, and not inconsistent with the pro-

visions of law, or the rules and regulations herein after estab-
|
|
|
lished ; and if any of them wilfully omit or refuse to discharge
|

any duty appertaining to his office, after having accepted the

neglect.

said appointment, he or she shall be dismissed from office, and
|
|
|
be subject to a fine of not less than thirty dollars, and not more
|
|
|
than five hundred dollars, to be recovered at the instance of the
|
|
|
board of directors, in the name of the state, for the use of the
|
|
|
said penitentiary, before any justice of the peace or court hav-
|
|
|
ing jurisdiction, as small debts are now collected.
|
|
|
SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the said agents, warden,
book-keeper, assistant warden, and the other officers, before
entering upon the discharge of the duties of their respective

offices, shall execute bonds to the state, with security, to be

approved by the board of directors, and in no manner connected
|
|
|
with the management of the said penitentiary ; the two former
|
|
|
(that is the agent and warden,) in the sum often thousand dol-
|
|
|
lars each, and the book-keeper in the sum of five thousand
|
|
|
dollars, the assistant warden in the sum of two thousand dol-
|
|
|
lars, and the other officers in the sum of one thousand dollars
|
|
|
respectively, conditioned for the faithful performance of the
|
|
|
duties required of them respectively by the laws of this slate,
|
|
|
and the rules and regulations that may be adopted, from time to
|
|
|
time, for the government of the said penitentiary ; and the said
|
|
|
bonds shall be filed in the executive department of the state,

and a certified copy thereof, under the seal of the state, shall be

evidences in actions on said bonds, or any of them ; and if

|
|
either of the officers aforesaid shall neglect to execute bond, as

SEC. 11. And be it enacted. That the said directors and all
