unless the person so manumitting him or her, shall furnish suf-
ficient means, and cause him or her to be removed from this
state, as required by the existing laws of this state.

CHAPTER 123.
AN ACT, entitled, a further Supplement to the Act, entitled, an Act to
establish State Warehouses, for the Inspection of Tobacco, in the City
of Baltimore.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, it shall not be law-
ful for any person or persons employed as clerks or labourers in
the state's tobacco inspection warehouses in the city of Baltimore,
to purchase or sell, or in any manner whatever to deal in the
article of tobacco.

Disposition
of scraps,
&c.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
several inspectors of the state warehouses to take care of all un-
packed scrap tobacco, which the owners may neglect or refuse
to take away or dispose of, and to hold the same subject to the
orders of the state's wharfinger; who is hereby directed to sell
the same, and to place the net proceeds in the hands of the in-
spectors for the purpose of defraying in part the expenses of said
warehouse.

 

CHAPTER 137.

AN ACT relating to Riots.

jury by riot

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, if any county or in-
corporated town or city of this state, any church, chapel or con-
vent, any dwelling-house, any house used or designed by any
person, or any body politic or corporate, as a place for the trans-
action of business or deposite of property, any ship, ship-yard or
or lumber-yard, any barn, stable or other out house, or any
articles of personal property, shall be injured or destroyed, or if

any property therein or thereon shall be taken away, injured or
destroyed, by any riotous or tumultuous assemblage of people,
the full amount of the damage so done shall be recoverable by

city, within whose jurisdiction such riot or tumult occurred ;
Provided however, that no such liability shall be incurred by
such county, incorporated town, or city, unless the authorities
thereof shall have had good reason to believe that such riot or
