Repealing
clause.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the act, entitled, an act, for
the protection of the oysters in the waters of the eastern shore
of this state, be and the same is hereby repealed, with all the
supplements to the same, and that all acts heretofore passed on
this subject inconsistent with or repugnant to the provisions of
this act, be and the same are hereby repealed; Provided, such
repeal, shall in no case be construed to affect any suit or action
now pending under the provisions of the said act, and several
supplements thereto.

 

CHAPTER -258.
AN ACT limiting the time for the Collection of the Fees of Attorneys,
Solicitors, Clerks, Registers, Sheriffs and other Officers of the State.
Supplement, 1836, ch. 73.

Limitation
three years.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the fees of attorneys, solicitors, clerks, registers, sheriffs,
collector of county levies, constables and other officers in this
state hereafter to become due shall be collected in three years
from the date of such fee or fees, and not after.

Previous
accounts.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That all fees due previous to the
passage of this act, shall be collected within three years from
the passage of this act and not after.

CHAPTER 261.

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT,* entitled, an Act, to reduce into one, the
several Acts of Assembly, respecting Elections, and to regulate such
Elections.

Preamble.

 

WHEREAS, the manner of appointing electors of president and
vice-president of the United States, by a general ticket, as
directed by the legislatures of a large majority of the states, has
the effect of giving the whole electoral vote of each of those
states, to one person, for each of those important offices; and
the mode adopted and long used in the state of Maryland, of
electing in separate districts of the state, one or at most two elec-
tors from each district, results in all cases of contest in giving
a divided vote to the candidates for the highest offices in the
government, and the majority of the citizens of Maryland are
thereby deprived of their just weight in the choice of the chief
magistrate, as compared with the majority of the citizens of
most of the other states ; therefore,

SEC.1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That on the first Monday of November, preceding the time
fixed by law of the United States for the choice of president
and vice-president of the United States, there shall be elected
by general ticket, as many electors of president and vice-presi-
dent as this state shall be entitled to appoint, and each citizen
of this state entitled to vote for delegates to the general assem-
