LAWS OF MARYLAND.— 1832.

making appropriations for the benefit of the American Coloni-
zation Society ; And whereas, by the restrictions of said act, the
American Colonization Society have not drawn on the treasurer
for several years past, for the appropriations made by the act
aforesaid, for the purpose of carrying into execution the benevo-
lent designs of the state ; And whereas, the state having now
embarked in that great and important work on her own re-
sources ; therefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the several sums appropriated by said act as aforesaid,
which have not already been appropriated, be, and the same are
hereby appropriated to, and for, the use of the state, as other
money now in the treasury.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid act, be, and
the same is hereby repealed to all intents and purposes.

CHAPTER 316.
AN additional SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act relating to the
People of Colour in this State, passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and thirty one, chapter two hundred and eighty-one.

WHEREAS, it appears that no certain time is, by the said ori-
ginal act, limited, for the payment of the annual tax directed to
be levied by the eighth section thereof; therefore,

Preamble.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That unless the tax by the said original act directed to be levied,
for the year eighteen hundred and thirty-two, shall be paid into
the treasury on or before the first of July next, the collectors
thereof shall be chargeable with and pay, from that time, inte-
rest, at the rate of six per centum per annum.

SEC 2. And be it enacted, That the like tax levied, or to be
levied, for the current year, and to be hereafter levied for any
future year, shall be paid into the treasury on or before the first

rized to be levied thereon by the act to which this is a supple-
