any will or testament; which paragraph
is as follows, viz.

" That any person legally convicted of wilfully,
" or corruptly imbezling, impairing,
" razing, or altering any will or record, whereby
" the estate of inheritance, or freehold of
" any person whatsoever shall be defeated, injured
" or any ways altered, such person so
" convict shall forfeit all his goods, chattels,
" lands and tenements, shall be set in the pillory,
" and shall have both his ears nailed
" thereto, and cut off his head."

A legacy is a bequest, or gift of goods and
chattels by a will or testament, and the person
to whom the gift is made is stiled the legatee.

Debts must be paid before legacies; justice
must be performed before acts of generosity, or
kindness--It is the duty of the executor to do
this justice to the creditors, and therefore, the
executor must assent to the legacy, before the
