Sec. 18A. The Chief
Judge of the Court of Ap-
peals shall be the admin-
istrative head of the ju-
dicial system of the State.
He shall from time to time
require, from each of the
judges of the Circuit Courts
for the several counties and
of the Supreme Bench of
Baltimore City, and of any
intermediate courts of ap-
peal, reports as to the ju-
dicial work and business of
each of the judges and
their respective courts. He
may, in case of a vacancy
or of the illness, disquali-
fication or other absence of
any judge of the Court of
Appeals or of any inter-
mediate court of appeal, or
for the purpose of relieving
an accumulation of business
in any of said courts, desig-
nate and assign any judge
of the Court of Appeals (if
the assignment is to be
made to an intermediate
court of appeal), any judge
of any intermediate court
of appeal (other than that
to which the assignment is
to be made), any judge of
any of the Circuit Courts
for the counties, or any
judge of the Supreme
Bench of Baltimore City
to sit in any case or cases
or for a specified period as
a judge of the Court of
Appeals or of any inter-
mediate court of appeal (as
the case may be) in lieu of
a judge of such Court. The
Chief Judge of the Court
of Appeals also may desig-
nate and assign, to sit as
a judge of the Circuit Court
for any county or the
Supreme Bench- of Balti-
more City and of any other
Court or Courts of Balti-
more City which may be
