Sec. 9. The Judge, or
Judges of any Court, may
appoint such officers for
their respective Courts as
may be found necessary;
and such officers of the
Courts in the City of Balti-
more shall be appointed by
the Judges of the Supreme
Bench of Baltimore City.
It shall be the duty of the
General Assembly to pre-
scribe, by Law, a fixed com-
pensation for all such of-
ficers; and said Judge, or
Judges shall, from time to
time, investigate the ex-
penses, costs and charges of
their respective courts, with
a view to a change or re-
duction thereof, and report
the result of such investiga-
tion to the General As-
sembly for its action.

Sec. 9. The Judge, or
Judges of any Court, may

their respective Co-jrts as
may be found necessary;
and such officers of the
Courts in the City of Bal-

the Judges of the Supreme

Responsibilities;
visitorial rights
and regulation by
Judges.

Sec. 10. The Clerks of
the several Courts, created,
or continued by this Con-
stitution, shall have charge
and custody of the records
and other papers, shall per-
form all the duties, and be
allowed the fees, which ap-
pertain to their several of-
fices, as the same now are,
or may hereafter be regu-
lated by Law. And the
office and business of said
Clerks, in all their depart-
ments, shall be subject to
the visitorial power of the
Judges of their respective
Courts, who shall exercise
the same, from time to
time, so as to insure the
faithful performance of the
duties of said officers; and
it shall be the duty of the
Judges of said Courts re-
spectively, to make, from
time to time, such rules and
regulations as may be neces-
sary and proper for the
government of said Clerks,

the several Courts created

stitution, shall have charge

lated by law.

Sec. 40. The present
Clerk of the Superior Court
of Baltimore city and of the
Court of Common Pleas,
and of the Criminal Court
of Baltimore, shall continue
to act as Clerks of said
Courts respectively during
the time for which they
were severally elected, and
until their successors are
elected and qualified, and
in case of the death, resig-
nation or disqualification of
either of said Clerks before
the expiration of the time

<>ec. 16. That the Clerk
of the Court of Appeals,
and the Clerks of the Cir-
cuit Courts in the several
counties, shall respectively
perform all the duties and
be entitled to the fees which
appertain to the offices of
the Clerks of Court of Ap-
peals for the Eastern and
Western Shores and of the
Clerks of County Courts,
and the Clerks of the Court
of Common Pleas, the Su-
perior Court, and the Crim-
inal Court for Baltimore
City, shall perform all the
duties appertaining to their
respective offices, and here-
tofore vested in the Clerks
of Baltimore County Court
and Baltimore City Court
respectively, and be en-
titled to all the fees now
allowed by law; and all
laws relating to the Clerks
of Court of Appeal, Clerks
of. the several County
Courts and Baltimore City

47. That the judges of
the general court and jus-
tices of the county courts
may appoint the clerks of
their respective courts, and
in case of refusal, death,
resignation, disqualification,
or removal out of the State,
or from their respective
shores, of the clerk of the
general court, or either of
them, in the vacation of
the said court; and in case
of the refusal, death, resig-
nation, disqualification, or
removal out of the county
of any of the said county
clerks in the vacation of the
county court of which he
is clerk, the governor with
the advice of the council
may appoint and commis-
sion a fit and proper person
to such vacant office re-
spectively, to hold the same
until the meeting of the
next general court or county
court, as the case may be.
