Sec. 6. Every person
elected, or appointed, to any
office of profit or trust, under
this Constitution, or under
the Laws, made pursuant
thereto, shall, before he en-
ters upon the duties of such
office, take and subscribe the
following oath, or affirma-
tion: I, ............................. do
swear, (or affirm, as the case
may be), that I will support
the Constitution of the
United States; and that I
will be faithful and bear true
allegiance to the State of
Maryland, and support the
Constitution and Laws there-
of; and that I will, to the
best of my skill and judg-
ment, diligently and faith-
fully, without partiality or
prejudice, execute the office
of............... according to the
Constitution and Laws of
this State (and, if a Gover-
nor, Senator, Member of the
House of Delegates, or
Judge), that I will not di-
rectly or indirectly, receive
the profits or any part of the
profits of any other office
during the term of my act-

Sec. 7. Every person
elected or appointed to any
office of trust or profit under
this Constitution, or under
the laws made pursuant
thereto, before he shall enter
upon the duties of such of-
fice, shall take and subscribe
the following oath or affir-
mation: I, ............. do swear,
(or affirm, as the case may
be) that I will, to the best
of my skill and judgment,
diligently and faithfully,
without partiality or preju-
dice, execute the office of
...., according to the Consti-
tution and laws of this State,
and that since the fourth day
of July, in the year eighteen
hundred and fifty-one, I have
not in any manner violated
the provisions of the present,
or of the late Constitution,
in relation to the bribery of
voters, or preventing legal
votes or procuring illegal
votes to be given (and if a
Governor, Senator, Member
of the House of Delegates,
or Judge), that I will not,
directly or indirectly, receive
the profits or any part of the
profits of any other office
during the term of my acting
as ................. I do further
swear (or affirm), that I will
bear true allegiance to the
State of Maryland, and sup-
port the Constitution and
Laws thereof, and that I will
bear true allegiance to the
United States, and support,
protect and defend the Con-
stitution, Laws and Govern-
ment thereof, as the supreme
law of the land, any law or
ordinance of this or any
State, to the contrary, not-
withstanding; that I have
never directly or indirectly,
by word, act or deed, given
any aid, comfort, or encour-
agement to those in rebellion
against the United States, or

Sec. 4. Every person
elected or appointed to any
office of profit or trust under
the Constitution or laws
made pursuant thereto, be-
fore he shall enter upon the
duties of such office shall
take and subscribe the fol-
lowing oath or affirmation:
I, A. B., do swear (or af-
firm, as the case may be,)
that I will support the con-
stitution of the United
States, and that I will be
faithful and bear true alle-
giance to the State of Mary-
land, and support the Con-
stitution and laws thereof;
that I will to the best of my
skill and judgment diligently
and faithfully, without parti-
ality or prejudice, execute
the office of ........................
according to the Constitu-
tion and laws of this State,
and that since the adoption
of the present Constitution,
I have not, in any manner,
violated the provisions there-
of in relation to bribery of
voters or preventing legal or
procuring illegal votes to be
given; (and if a Governor,
Senator, member of the
House of Delegates, or
Judge,) "that I will not di-
rectly or indirectly receive
the profits or any part of the
profits of any other office
during the time of my acting
as ........................." And if
any person elected or ap-'
pointed to office as aforesaid,
shall refuse or neglect to take
the said oath or affirmation,
he shall be considered as
having refused to accept the
said office, and a new elec-
tion or appointment shall be
made as in case of refusal or
resignation, and any person
swearing or affirming falsely
in the premises, shall, on
conviction thereof in a court
of law, incur the penalties

50. That the governor,
every member of the council,
and every judge and justice,
before they act as such, shall
respectively take an oath,
"that he will not, through
favour, affection, or partial-
ity, vote for any person to
office, and that he will vote
for such person as in his
judgment and conscience he
believes most fit and best
qualified for the office, and
that he has not made, nor
will make, any promise or
engagement to give his vote
or interest in favour of any
person."
28. That the senators
and delegates, immediately
on their annual meeting, and
before they proceed to any
business, and every person
hereafter elected a senator,
or delegate, before he acts
as such, shall take an oath
of support and fidelity to
this State as aforesaid, and
before the election of the
governor, or members of the
council, shall take an oath
"to elect without favour,
affection, partiality, or prej-
udice, such person, as gov-
ernor, or member of the
council, as they, in their
judgment and conscience,
believe best qualified for the
office."
43. That every person
who shall offer to vote for
delegates, or for the electors
of the senate, or for the
sheriff, shall (if required by
any three persons qualified
to vote) before he be admit-
ted to poll, take such oath
or affirmation of support and
fidelity to this State as this
Convention or the legislature
shall direct.

Every member of the Sen-
ate and House of Delegates
before he shall act as Such,
shall take and subscribe, the
following oath or affirma-
tion, to wit; I, A. B., do
Swear (or affirm, as the case

of the House of Delegates)
and that I will faithfully
discharge my duty as Sen-
ator (or member of the
House of Delegates) without
prejudice or partiality to the
best of my skill and judg-
ment and that Electors of
the Senate and all executive
and Judicial officers before
they act as such and all per-
sons elected or appointed to
to any office of profit or
trust, civil or military, before
entering upon the duties
thereof, shall respectively
take and subscribe the fol-
lowing oath or affirmation to
wit: I, A. B., do Swear, or
affirm, as tht case may be,
that I will faithfully and
bear true allegiance to the
state of Maryland, and that
I will Support the Constitu-
tion and laws thereof and
that I will to the best of my
Skill and judgment, diligent-
ly and faithfully, without
partiality or prejudice, exe-
cute the office of ............ ac-
cording to the constitution
and laws of this State.
