CONSTITUTIONAL REVISION STUDY DOCUMENTS

which would give constitutional recogni-
tion to the University of Maryland in the
proposed revision to the State of Mary-
land Constitution.

The Alumni Association recognizes
that the future growth and development
of the University of Maryland will be
greatly strengthened by provisions in the
Constitution which place the manage-
ment of the University in the hands of
the Board of Regents who would have
exclusive general supervision of the
institution and the control and direction
of all expenditures from the University's
funds. It also is recognized that this
autonomy of management must be con-
sistent with, and properly balanced
against, the need for supervision by

public authorities.

The Alumni of the University of Mary-
land salute the perceptiveness and com-
mendatory action of the Constitutional
Commission in recommending the con-
stitutional recognition which is so vital
to the future of our great and rapidly
growing University. We hope that the
Constitutional Convention and voters
of the State of Maryland will utilize and
adopt the thorough, comprehensive and
well conceived recommendations of the
Constitutional Convention Commission.

Sincerely,

J. LOGAN SCHUTZ

Executive Secretary
Alumni Association
