VOTE ON THE
CONSTITUTION.

For the purpose of ascer-
taining the sense of the
people of this State, in re-
gard to the adoption, or re-
jection of this Constitution,
the Governor shall issue his
Proclamation within five
days after the adjournment
of this Convention, directed
to the Sheriffs of the City of
Baltimore, and of the several
Counties of this State, com-
manding them to give
notice, in the manner now
prescribed by Law in refer-
ence to the election of mem-
bers of the House of Dele-
gates, that an election for
the adoption or rejection of
this Constitution, will be
held in the City of Balti-
more, and in the several
Counties of this State, on
Wednesday, the Eighteenth
day of September, in the
year eighteen hundred and
sixty-seven, at the usual
places of holding elections
for members of the House of
Delegates in said City and
Counties. At the said elec-
tion the vote shall be by
ballot, and upon each ballot,
there shall be written or
printed the words "For the
Constitution," or "Against
the Constitution," as the
voter may elect; and the pro-
visions of the Laws of this
State, relating to the hold-
ing of general elections for
members of the House of
Delegates, shall, in all re-
spects, apply to, and regu-
late the holding of the said
election. It shall be the duty
of the Judges of Election, in

of this State on the twelfth
and thirteenth days of Oc-
tober, in the same year, at
the usual places of holding
elections in said city and
counties, for the adoption or
rejection of this Constitu-
tion, which election shall be
held in the said city of Bal-
timore on the twelfth day
of October, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-four, between
the hours of eight o'clock
A.M. and five o'clock P.M.,
and in the said several coun-
ties of this State on the said
twelfth and thirteenth days
of October, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-four between j
the hours of eight o'clock
A.M. and five o'clock P.M.,
and the Judges of Election
of said city, and of the sev- I
eral counties of the State,
shall receive at said election
the votes only of such elec-

Art. X, sec. 10. This Con-
stitution, if adopted by a
majority of the legal votes
cast on the first Wednesday
of June next, shall go into
operation on the fourth day
of July next, and on and
after said day shall supersede
the present Constitution of
this State.

 

61. That to introduce the
new government, an election
be held for the electors of
the senate on Monday the
twenty-fifth of November in
this present year, and that
the electors of the senate
meet at Annapolis on Mon-
day the ninth of December
in this present year and
there choose senators, and
that an election be held on
Wednesday the eighteenth
of December for delegates to
serve in general assembly,
and for sheriffs, and that
the said elections be made
by such persons in the same
manner and under the same
qualifications as such elec-
tions are herein before
directed to be made at
the periodical times before-
mentioned; the returns of
all which first elections shall
be made to the Council of
Safety for the time being,
and the general assembly
shall meet at Annapolis on
Monday the tenth of Febru-
ary next; and shall in their
then session, or in such
future session as they shall
think proper, choose a gov-
ernor and council for the
residue of the year in man-
ner before directed: and for
filling in the first instance
only all the offices in the dis-
position of the governor with
the advice of the council,
the house of delegates may
also propose to the senate a
list of all officers in the ap-
pointment of the governor
with the advice of the coun-
cil, and on the senate con-
curring therein, or in the
recommendation of any of
