SUNDRY OFFICERS.

Section 1. County Com-
missioners shall be elected
on general ticket of each
county by the qualified vot-
ers of the several counties
of the State on the Tuesday
next after the first Monday
in the month of November,
commencing in the year
nineteen hundred and fifty-
eight; their number in each
county, their compensation,
powers and duties shall be
such as now or may be here-
after prescribed by Law;
they shall be elected at such
times, in such numbers and
for such periods, not exceed-
ing four years, as may be
prescribed by Law.

ARTICLE VII.
SUNDRY OFFICERS.

missioners shall be elected on
general ticket of each Coun-
ty, by the qualified voters
of the several Counties of
this State, on the Tuesday
next after the first Monday
in the month of November,
eighteen hundred and sixty-
seven, and on the same day
in every second year there-
after. Their number in each
County, their compensation,
powers and duties, shall be
such as are now, or may be
hereafter prescribed by Law.

ARTICLE VII.
SUNDRY OFFICERS.

Sec. 5. The County Com-
missioners shall be elected,
on general ticket, by the
qualified voters of the sev-
eral counties in this State;
an election for County Com-
missioners shall be held on
the Tuesday next after the
first Monday in the month
of November, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-five, and as
nearly one-half as may be
of said Commissioners shall
hold their office for two
years, and the other half for
four years. At the first meet-
ing after their election and
qualification, or as soon
thereafter as practicable, the
said Commissioners shall de-
termine by lot which of
their number shall hold of-
fice for two and four years
respectively; and thereafter
there shall be elected as
aforesaid, at each general
election for county officers,
County Commissioners for
four years to fill the places
of those whose term has ex-
pired. The said Commission-

Sec. 8. The county au-
thorities now known as Levy
Courts or County Commis-
sioners, shall hereafter be
styled "County Commission-
ers," and shall be elected
by general ticket, and not
by districts, by the voters of
the several counties, on the
first Wednesday in Novem-
ber, one thousand eight hun-
dred and fifty-one, and on
the same day in every sec-
ond year thereafter. Said
Commissioners shall exercise
such powers and duties only
as the Legislature may from
time to time prescribe; but
such powers and duties, and
the tenure of office, shall be
uniform throughout the
State, and the Legislature
shall, at or before its second
regular session, after the
adoption of this Constitu-
tion, pass such laws as may
be necessary for determining
the number for each county,
and ascertaining and defin-
ing the powers, duties, and
tenure of office of said Com-

46. That all civil officers
hereafter to be appointed for
the several counties of this
State shall have been resi-
dents of the county respec-
tively for which they shall
be appointed, six months
next before their appoint-
ment, and shall continue
residents of their county
repectively during their con-
