Sec. 8. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect immediately.
CHAPTER 400.

In force.

AN ACT to incorporate the Miners and Median- ,
ics' Co-operative Store, of Franklin Mines, in
Allegany, Maryland.

7, 1867.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That John Whitfield, Michael J.
Carney. John J. Dobbie, James Maher, Hugh
McMullin, P. J. Bunnell, Joseph Logsdon, Junior,
and Samuel Barber, be and they are hereby ap-
pointed Commissioners to take subscriptions to
the capital stock of the Miners and Mechanics' Co-
operative Store, of Franklin Mines, in Allegany
County, and they, or a majority of them, may
cause books to be opened for said purpose at such
times and places, and for such periods, and upon
such notice as they may deem expedient, and may
re-open the same from time to time for said pur-
pose, and if any of them shall die, resign or refuse
to serve, another or others may be appointed in
his or their stead by authority of the remaining
Commissioners.

Sec. 2. Be it enacted, That the subscribers to
the said stock, their successors or assigns, shall be
and they are hereby created and declared a body
corporate, by the name of the Miners and Me-
chanics' Co-operative Store, of Franklin Mines,
in Allegany County, and by that name shall have
perpetual succession, and be capable in law to sue
and be sued, plead and be impleaded in any court
whatever, and may have and use a common seal,
and the same to alter and renew at pleasure, and
shall have power to purchase, lease, acquire and
bold, sell, convey and transfer real, personal and
mixed property, as far as shall be necessary or
convenient for conducting a general mercantile
