hundred and forty-six, entitled, "an Act to
amend Article four, of the Code of Public Local
Laws, relating to leasing of the State tobacco
warehouses and the inspection of tobacco and
re-enact the same; also to repeal sections 9, 11
12, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 25, 26, 27, and 28, of
chapter three hundred and forty-six of Laws of
Maryland, passed January Session, eighteen
hundred and sixty-four, to re-enact the same
with amendments, and to annex additional sec-
tions to come in after section 50 of said Act.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That sub-section 5, of chapter one
hundred and ninety-four of Laws of Maryland,
passed January session, eighteen hundred and
sixty-five be repealed and re-enacted so as to read
as follows:

pealed.

Sec. 5. Each of said tobacco inspectors, as soon
as possible alter qualifying, shall take charge of
the warehouse to which he may be appointed, and
of all the tobacco, books, furniture, implements,
appurtenances and effects found therein and shall
receipt to his predecessor therefor, and shall em-
ploy such clerks and laborers, provide and keep on
hand such books, implements, and materials as
may be necessary for the economical and effective
discharge of his duties as such inspector; the
chief clerks of the respective warehouses shall re-
ceive each twelve hundred dollars per annum; the
receiving and shipping clerks shall receive each
nine hundred dollars per annum : the weighing
clerk shall receive nine hundred dollars per
annum; the screwman two dollars and fifty
cents per day, and the laborers of back gang
two dollars per day; all of which shall be
paid by the inspectors from the receipts into
their respective offices; the inspectors shall at no
time employ more laborers than are necessary for
the effective performance of the work to be done,
and in his quarterly returns to the Comptroller of
the State, each inspector shall state the average
number of screwmen and laborers employed in his
warehouse during said quarter, and amount of
