CHAPTER 270.

AN ACT to incorporate the Frederick Library As-
sociation of Frederick city.

Passed Mar.
6, 1867.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That J. William Birely, Vice-Pre-
sident: Laurence J. Brengle, Treasurer; Benja-
min H. Schley, Secretary; Thomas M. Cann,
Hanshew S.. Markey, Simon Parsons, George R.
Dennis, William H. R. Kelty, Valentine S.
Bruimer and George A. Hanson, Directors, and
their successors, and all persons who are or shall
be associated with them hereafter, be and they are
hereby declared to be a community, corporation
and body politic forever, by the name and style of
the "Frederick Library Association," for the pur-
pose of establishing and maintaining a library,
reading-room, literary and scientific lectures, de-
bates and other means of promoting moral and
intellectual improvement, with power for such
purpose to take by purchase, demise or otherwise,
and to hold, transfer and convey real and personal
property to an amount not exceeding fifty thou-
sand dollars, and also to take, hold and convey all
books, papers, cabinets, library furniture and ap-
paratus as may be necessary for attaining the ob-
jects and carrying into effect the purposes of said
corporation.

Incorporated.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corpo-
ration and their successors by the name and title
aforesaid, shall be capable in law to sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded, answer and he
answered unto, defend and be defended in all
courts of law or equity, and before all or any
judges, officers or persons whatsoever, in action,
matter or demand.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That the control and
management of the funds, property, estate and
concerns of the said corporation shall vest and be
invested in the officers of the corporation to con-
sist of a President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, and such number of Directors as the
constitution of said corporation may direct) who
shall be elected annually to their respective offices
