company may charge for freight six cents per ton
per mile, and for passengers five cents per mile for
each passenger. |

Sec. 10. And be it enacted, That the said com-
pany may increase its capital stock to two hun-
dred thousand dollars by additional subscriptions
and may borrow money not exceeding fifty thou-
sand dollars and mortgage their road to secure the
same; the said company shall have full power to
purchase and hold real estate for the use of the
road or its works. |

Sec. 11. And be it enacted, That for the protec-
tion of life and property, the said company shall,
and it is hereby made their duty to give proper
signals before crossing any roads, and it shall use
such necessary devices as now exist or hereafter
may be discovered or invented for this purpose ;
and where it is needful shall station signal men
to warn the public of the approach of or danger
from trains, unless that end may be better attained
in some other manner. |

Sec. 12. And be it further enacted, That there shall
not be condemned for the actual bed or graded sur-
face for cross trees and rails of said road, a greater
width than sixty feet with proper addition for
slopes, but that for stations, sidelings or turnouts
or other erections, constructions, or structures im-
mediately connected with the working of said road,
at proper and necessary places only, such quantity
of land as may be needed for such uses, unless
agreement can be made with the owner, may be
condemned as is hereinafter provided for. |

Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That of the sum of
fifty-eight thousand dollars appropriated by the
State of Maryland to the Elkton and Sassafras
River Railroad Company by the Art of eighteen
hundred and sixty, chapter, three hundred and
three, twenty thousand dollars is hereby given,
appropriated and bestowed to and upon the head
of Sassafras, Warwick and Delaware Line Rail-
road, incorporated by this Act, and the General
Assembly reserves the right to alter, amend or
repeal this charter at pleasure. |

Sec. 14. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage. |
