6th Interrogatory. Have you any recollection of making
any remarks of the same purport as the above ?

Answer. I do not. I remember having been told of a re-
mark of Patrick Hammil's something like the above, but
have no recollection of making remarks about it.

7th Interrogatory. Are you positive you. had not made up
your mind, previous to the election, not to allow him to vote?

Answer. I had determined he should not vote if he did not
take the oath, and answer the questions required by the
Judges.

8th Interrogatory. Did you not swear Patrick Hammil and
catechise him ?

Answer. He took the oath, but I do not recollect asking him
a question.

9th Interrogatory. Did any of the aforementioned persons
apply to you for registration in 1865.

Answer. Mr. Fairall came to our office twice in 1865; I
asked him if he ' was go ing to register, he said not as he
would'nt take the oath.

10th Interrogatory. Did he apply for registration ?
Answer. He did not.

11th Interrogatory. Notwithstanding they did not apply,
did you enter them as disqualified in 1865 ?

Answer. Mr. Fairall was entered as disqualified.

12th Interrogatory. Is Mr. Fairall not post-master, and
how long has he held that position ?

Answer. Mr. Fairall has been post-master for about two
years.

13th Interrogatory. Before whom did you qualify as Regis-
ter in 1865?

Answer. Before squire Baker, I believe.

14th Interrogatory. Do you not know that any person hold-
ing an office of profit or trust in the State of Maryland must
qualify within 30 days, before the Clerk of the Circuit Court?

Answer. I know such officers must qualify within 30 days,
but I did not know it must be done befo re the Clerk of the
Court.

15th Interrogatory. Did you consider the eight aforemen-
ed persons disloyal; and why ?

Answer. I considered seme of them disloyal—some of them
from testimony and some from conversation they had before
me.

16th Interrogatory. Did you know any of them to be in
arms against the United States, or to give aid or comfort to
its enemies ?
