whose names were on your ticket as candidates for House of
Delegates ?

Answer. I attended the said election, did not offer to vote,
because others, like myself could not vote, and I thought I
could not. The names of the parties on my ticket as candi-
dates for the House of Delegates, were William A. Bryden,
William Devecmon, John McElfish, George W. McCulloh
and Patrick Hammil.

Cross-Examination by Mr. Brown.

1st Question. Why did you not register in 1865 ?

Answer. I did not try to be registered; did not think it
worth my while, because I thought the law would be re-
pealed.

JOHN C. NETHKIN, being duly sworn, deposed and said as
follows, to wit:

By Mr. Devecmon :

1st Question. What is your name, age, residence, and oc-
cupation ?

Answer. My name is John C. Nethkin; age 36; live in
District No. 10, Allegany county, Maryland, and am a
farmer by occupation.

2d Question. When did you register ?

Answer. In September, 1866, I think in District No. 10.

3d Question. Did you attend the election held in District
No 10 Allegany county, Maryland, November 6, 1866; did
you offer to vote; was your vote accepted or rejected, and
whose names were on your ticket as candidates for House of
Delegates ?

Answer. I attended said election; offered to vote, but the
Judges refused my ticket, because I would not take the oath
which they presented me; the names of the parties on my
ticket as candidates for House of Delegates, were John Mc-
Elfish, George W. McCulloh, Wm. A. Bryden, Wm. Devec-
mon, and Patrick Hammil.
