ed they were Radicals, because they wore the Yankee uni-
form. I did not know of the registration in 1865, until the
time for registration had passed. I took no part in the war,
but fed both parties as they came to my house; I live close to
the Virginia line. If I bad not fed them, they would have
taken it. Had no sympathy either way—it was reported to
the Registers of 1865, that I said the South was right—but I
don't remember saying so.

Deposition No. 15.

GEORGE H. O'BRIEN, being duly sworn, deposed and said
as follows, to wit:

By Mr. Devecmon:

1st Question. What is your name, age, residence and oc-
cupation ?

Answer. My name is George H. O'Brien, age 31, live in
District No. 1, Allegany county, and am a farmer.

2nd Question. When were you registered ?
Answer. In September, 1866.

3rd Question. Did you attend the election November 6,
1866, did you vote, and if not why; whose names were on
your ticket as candidates for House of Delegates ?

Answer. I attended said election, offered to vote, but the
Judges refused it. The names on my ticket as candidates for
House of Delegates were Patrick Hammil Wm. A. Bryden,
Wm. Devecmon, John McElfish and George W. McCulloh.

Cross-examined 6y Mr. Brown.

1st Question. Why did you not register in 1865 ?
Answer. I did not appear before the Registers in 1865, to
be registered.

Re-examined by Mr Hammil.

The election was not held in the usual place for holding
such elections.

Deposition No. 16.

JARVIS McCLURE MASON, being duly sworn, deposed and
said as follows, to wit:

By Mr. Devecmon :

1st Question. What is your name, age, residence and occu-
pation ?

Answer. My name is Jar vis McClure Mason, age 50, re-
side in District No. 10, Allegany county, and by occupation
a farmer.
