By Mr. Devecmon,

1st Question. What is your name, age, residence and occu-
pation ?

Answer. My name is Henry Hammil, age 67, reside in
District No.1 Allegany county, and am by occupation a
farmer.

2nd Question. Were You registered prior to November 6,
1866?

Answer. I was registered in September, 1865.

3rd Question. Did you attend the election held in District
No. 1, Allegany county, November 6, 1866, did you offer to
vote, was your vote accepted or rejected, and whose names
were on your ticket as candidates for the House of Delegates ?

Answer. I attended said election, offered to vote, and my
vote was refused, by the Jndges; the names on my ticket as
candidates for the House of Delegates, were Patrick Ham mil,
William Devecmon, William A. Bryden, George W. McCul-
Irfh, John McElfish.

4th Question. Was the election in District No. 1, held in
an unusual place?

Answer. It was; for forty years before it was never held
in the place in which it was held November 6. 1866.

Cross-examined by Mr, Brown.

1st Question. Where was the usual place for holding elec-
tions in District No. 1 ?
Answer. At Wilson's Store.

2nd Question. Where was it held on Nov. 6, 1866?

Answer. At Altament, about a mile from Wilson's Store,
in a small room near the rail road.

3rd Question. 1s Altament as public a place as Wilsons ?

Answer. Not quite. The public State road crosses the R.
R. at Wilson's and not at Altament.

4th Attention, Why was your vote rejected ?

Answer. The Judges said I was challenged, but would give
me no other reasons. To all my inquires they answered, "1
dont know." The Judges belong to the Radical party. They
did not ask me to take the oath. One of the Judges showed me a
paper and said I never saw such an oath. He asked me to
read it, and I declined to do so. I had nothing to do with
the Rebellion, and gave rebels no aid or comfort ?
