On motion of Mr. Williams,

The House took up for consideration the bill entitled, an
Act making appropriations for the support of the goverment
for the year ending on the first day of January, 1868 ;

Said bill being upon a second reading,

Mr. Carmichael proposed the following amendment:

In line 9, after the word "judiciary," strike out the words
"three thousand" and insert "five thousand."

After the word " laws " in line 13, title schools, add, " to
the House of the good Shepherd, in city of Baltimore, three
thousand dollars; to Saint Vincent's Infant Orphan Asylum
in the city of Baltimore, three thousand dollars.

Mr. Burche proposed the following amendment:

Amend the amendment by appropriating the sum of fiv
thousand dollars, to be divided pro rata among all the char-
itable institutions of the State;

Which was not concurred in.

The question then recurring upon the amendment pro
posed by Mr. Clarke,
