630 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 28,

The amount received for four consecutive quarters is about
$2,937, and three-fourths of half this sum would make about
eleven hundred dollars, which wonld be the estimated com-
pensation of each of the two inspectors, and as the facilities
are greater, no doubt the amount weighed will be increased.

"A bill" has been prepared and is herewith reported to
authorize the erection of an additional set of scales south of
the Frederick road so as to accommodate the four roads above
mentioned.

And your Committee further report that much dissatisfac-
tion is reported to them to be felt in relation to the present
position of the scales by those for whose especial accommoda-
tion it was located (those who enter by the Reistertown and
Liberty roads), growing out of its distance from the points
where the largest portion of the hay is sold. Those who
reside near these scales are also anxious that it should be re-
moved from their neighborhood. This part of the city is
high and commanding and is being rapidly improved by the
erection of dwellings, and the inconvenience resulting from
the constant presence and moving about of large loads of hay
is a source ofannoyance and inconvenience. The Committee
have, therefore, provided for selling the present site and re-
moving the scales therefrom when a more convenient lot can
be found and purchased.

E. HAMMOND,
Chairman.

Also, reported favorably a bill entitled, an Act to add an
additional section under the head of hay and straw, to Article
four of the Code of Public Local Law, entitled, city of Balti-
more, authorizing the erection of additional Hay Scales in
the said city, and the purchase of a site therefor, and the ap-
pointment of an additional Inspector of Hay and Straw, and
to regulate the compensation of Inspectors of Hay and
Straw;

Which was read a first and by special order a second and
third time;

Three fourth of all the members being present and concur-
ring, and passed by yeas and nays as follow:
