554 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS Feb. 25,

Barnes, of Monument street church, did publicly announce
from the pulpit that the present Legislature could be bribed
and bought for any purpose, and that said committee have
power to sead for papers and persons.

Mr. Stevens proposed the following amendment:

Strike out "three" and insert "five;"

Which was rejected.
