violation of the law, for you, as one of the judges of election,
to participate in organizing an armed force to attend the
polls on the day of election ?

Answer. I do not know what the law says on that head.

Seventh Cross-Interrogatory. Have any suits been brought
against you for refusing to receive votes at the election held in
District No. 10, Allegany county, Md., Nov. 6, 1866; if so,
how many ?

Answer. There are so many I cannot recollect.

Eighth Cross-Interrogatory. How many Radical and how
many Conservative votes were polled in District No. 10, at
the election held November 6th, 1866?

Answer. To the best of my knowledge sixty-nine Radical
votes were polled, and thirteen Conservatives.

Neither party desiring to make further interrogatories or
producing other witnesses, I accordingly close this testimony,
and certify that the foregoing is a true statement of answers
given by the witnesses as they were respectively produced and
examined before me this day.

Given under my hand and seal this 5th day of January, in
the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and sixty-seven.

commissioned and sworn, and authorized by law to adminis-
ter oaths and take acknowledgments.

In testimony whereof, I hereunto subscribe my

Allegany county, this 5th day of January, 1867.
