Answer, I decline to answer.

Interrogatory 1. as No. 1, in B. Wm. R. Loliers, my age
50, occupation farmer, residence in Election District No. 10,
Allegany county, Maryland, have lived there 7 years.

Interrogatory 2, as 2, in B.

Answer. I was so appointed; did qualify and act for 1865;
had read the Constitution and law before entering upon that
duty; did so administer the oath; I did give notice.

Interrogatory 3. Did you register any persons as disquali-
fied for disloyalty; if so name them.

Answer. William Wilderson, John Knepp, Rob't Lee,
Wm. Moon, Wm. H. Kitzmiller, J. M. Shaffer Henry Shaf-
fer, David S. Arnold, J. McClure Mason and John Phillips, I
don't know whether any of the above named voted at the last
election or not; some of them were published as registered.

1st Cross-interrogatory by A. Spates.

Before whom did you qualify as Register in 1855 ?

Answer. Before squire Baker.

2d Cross-interrogatory. Did the parties whom you men-
tioned as disqualified from voting in 1865, apply to you to
be registered ?

Answer. They did; we did not administer the Constitu-
tional oath because they did not appear.

3d Cross-interrogatory. Did you give them notice that their
cases would be investigated, and were they present to con-
front the witnesses against them, when you so registered
them as disqualified ?

Answer. We simply gave the ordinary notice; they did
not appear.

4th Cross-interrogatory. Did you make a return of the
registered voters in District No. 10, for 1865, to the Clerk of
the Circuit Court for Allegany county ?

Answer. We thought we had.

Fifth Cross-interrogatory. How many of the persons mark-
ed by you as disloyal in 1865, voted at the election, Nov. 6,

1866.
Answer. I did not see any of them vote.

James Chisholin age 65, years, occupation miller, residence
