tacked that day; Benj. Harvy, Jas. W. Harvy, Wm. Wil-
son, Archibald Chisholm, Beckwith Shrout, and I think Wm.
Riggs, Chas. Lish, James W. White, and I had a pistol, the
parties that I named belonged to the Union party, the win-
dow was chiefly occupied by the Conservatives, I saw nine
stationed about, there was thirteen Conservative votes cast
there that day, and sixty-nine Union.
Cross-Interrogatory No. 6th. State, if you know, how
many votes were refused there that day ?
Answer. Did not take any notice, suppose that there were
20 more or less, that belonged to the Conservative party prin-
cipally. (So I supposed.)
Cross-Interrogatory 7th.
Did you or did you not just previous to the election, receive
by railroad and directed to you at Oakland, supplies for the
use of the company which the citizens organized at a meeting
in District No. 10, to attend the polls on the day of election.
Answer. Yes there was a lot of bread and meat, and a keg
of beer was sent out for a dinner at the polls.

Interrogatory 1. As No. 1, in schedule A.
Answer. Wm. H. Hall, age 45 years, occupation farmer,
residence District No. 15, Allegany county, Maryland, resided
there 10 years.
Interrogatory 2. As 2 in schedule A.
Answer. I received such an appointment, I qualified and
acted as such for the year 1866. I had read the Law and
Constitution regulating the registration of voters before enter-
ing upon said duties; I did administer the oath as prescribed
before entering the name in the 8th column of said book; I gave
notice as required by law of the time and place of registra-
tion.
Interrogatory 3rd. As No. 3, in schedule A. I believe I
did in one or two instances, Mr. Peter Brant and Nelson Baker
had been put down as having been in the rebel army, and the
registers of 1865, said it was a mistake, and requested me to
allow them to correct it, and I registered them.
Interrogatory 4th. As 4th in schedule A. I registered 59
or 60, some of which came of age since November 1865; say
3 or 4, I suppose the majority could have registered in 1865,
if they had desired to, I was guided solely by the register
law.
Interrogatory 5th. As 5 in schedule A.
Answer. My name was registered as a voter before the 1st
of August 1866; and I voted for A. Spates for State Senates
