Interrogatory 1st. As in Schedule D:

Answer. Thos. Reid; my age5 55 years'; occupation, sad-
dler; residence, District No. 6, in Allegany county; and have
resided there 30 years.

Interrogatory 2d. As in Shedule D. He answers and says:

Answer. I was appointed, qualified and acted as such; I
read the tickets, each name carefully and correctly, and as
far as I know they were properly tallied by the clerks.
(Excepted to by A. Spates.)

THOMAS REID.

JOSEPH M. KOERNER, (Sworn.)

Interrogatory 1st. As in schedule D.

James M. Koerner, age 38, occupation Wheelwright, resi-
dence District No. 13, of Allegany county, have resided there
9 years.

Interrogatory 2nd. As in schedule D.

(Excepted to by A. Spates.)

I was appointed, qualified and did act as Judge at said elec-
tion, I carefully read the names on ballots, to the best of my
knowledge they were carefully and correctly tallied, and count-
ed, by the clerks; I was too far from the clerks to see that they
were tallied correctly, I did return the tickets to the clerk of
the Circuit Court tor Allegany county, Maryland, A. J. .
Clark and Alfred Spates looked over A. J. Clarks shoulder
for some time.

Interrogatory 3rd. As in schedule D. The number of bal-
lots in the ballot box at the close of the polls, and count
did not agree with the number of persons who voted,
there were 843 names on the poll books, and on count-
ing the tickets, we found 850 tickets in the ballot box,
three of these tickets were double, which we threw away, and
left 847, which we counted and strung, there was another de-
ceitfully folded, as one of the Judges thought, but Mr. Clark
thought it was not, and we counted it. It was a conservative
ticket, and we counted both, the other three double tickets
were also conservative tickets, the name of A. Spates was on
them for State Senator.

To the 1st Cross-Interrogatory, he answers and says; w.e
did not read each name on the tickets as written or printed
respectively except the split tickets, but we put down the
whole tickets without reading each name, but carefully exam-
ined them to see that they were whole tickets, as the tickets
were drawn out, if it proved to be a split ticket it was put in
a seperate box where the split tickets were kept, if it was a
whole ticket, after being satisfied that it was a whole ticket,
we put it down and the clerks tallied it without the names
being read, except the heading of the same.

JOSEPH M. KOERNER.
