Constitution, Article 1, Sec. 4, before deciding on your right
to vote ?

Answer. They did. I refused to take it, and told them I
was sworn once and that would do.

JOHN CONNEWAY.

Deposition No. 32.

George Mosser, having been by me duly sworn, deposed
and said as follows, to wit :

By Mr. Spates.

Question. What is your name, age, occupation and resi-
dence, and how long have you resided there ?

Answer. My name is George Mosser, age 70 years, occu-
pation farmer, and reside in election District No. 10, in Al-
legany county, Maryland, and have lived there 25 years.

By Mr. Spates.

Question. Were you registered as a voter prior to the elec-
tion held in Allegany county November 6th, 1866 ?

Answer. I was, in September, 1866, in the Red House, in
District No. 10.

By Mr. Spates.

Question. Did you or not attend at the polls in said elec-
tion District, in Allegany county, on the 6th day of Novem-
ber, 1866; if so, did you then and there offer a ticket to the
judges of election at said polls, as your bollot, and was it re-
ceived or rejected; state also the name of the person printed on
Raid ticket, for State Senator, for whom you desired to vote ;
and what reason did the said judges assign for rejecting your
vote, if they did so reject it ?

Answer. I went to the polls in my District on the day of the
election in November last; I offered my ballot at the window
and it was rejected by the judges. The name of Alfred
Spates, as State Senator, was on the ticket I wished to vote
and offered to the judges. The judges said I should swear
before they would let me vote. 1 told them I had sworn once
and was not going to swear again. They did not tell me
what they wanted me to swear, only that I must, in order to
vote.

John C. Nethken, having been by me duly sworn, deposed
and said as follows, to wit :

By Mr Spates.

Question. What is your name, age, occupation and resi-
dence, and how long have you lived there ?

Answer. My name is John C. Nethken, age 36 years, oc-
cupation farm work, and reside in election District No. 10,
in Allegany county, Maryland, and was born and raised
there.
