Maryland in the World War.
Maryland responded promptly and patriotically to the call of the Nation, when the United States entered the great struggle, and the men and women of the State contributed to a conspicuous record in every phaze of Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Bed Cross, Loan Cam- paigns, and in every other activity necessary to carrying the war to a, successful conclusion. To the fighting forces of the country Maryland sent, according to the figures compiled by the War Department, a total of 61,839 men, divided as follows: ARMY.
