The Department of Law of Maryland was established by Chapter
560 of the Acts of 1916 and provides that its head shall be the Attorney
General of the State who is, by said Act, authorized to appoint four
Assistant Attorneys General at a salary of $2,500 each, and one at $1,50O.
This Department is charged with the duty of acting as counsel to the
various Boards, Commissions and officials except the Public Service Com-
mission, the Election Supervisors of the State, the Boards of School
Commissioners and any County Boards or officers.
