The State Auditor and Deputy Auditors are appointed by the Board
of Public Works for a term of two years from the date of qualification.
(Ch. 704, 1914.) Assistants appointed by State Auditor.

The law requires this office to audit the books and accounts of all
Clerks of Courts, all Registers of Wills, and the offices of Sheriffs and
State Attorneys when such offices are conducted upon the fee system; the
books and accounts of all Collectors of State Taxes, all institutions re-
ceiving appropriations from the State, the books and accounts of the
Public Service Commission, the books and accounts of the State Tobacco
Warehouse, and the books and accounts of such other State officers as may
be required and directed by the Board of Public Works.

This office in required to see that the State receives all monies due, and
also that all disbursements are properly authorized in so far as State
funds are concerned.
