The Governor is elected by the people for a term of four years from
the second "Wednesday in January next ensuing his election; the Secre-
tary of State is appointed by the Governor and holds his office until
the end of the term of the Governor; th^ other officers are appointed
by the Governor and hold their office during his pleasure.

GOVERNOR'S STAFF.

The Governor appoints one Quartermaster General, one Chief of
Ordnance, one Inspector General, one Surgeon General, one Judge
Advocate General, all of whom shall have the rank of Brigadier Gen-
eral, and ten Aids with the rank of Colonel, who with the Adjutant
General constitute the Governor's staff. (Chapter 89, 1896).
