STATE ASSEMBLIES.

The Provincial Convention met June 24th, 1774, and under its
authority the Constitutional Convention met on August 14th, 1776.
The Declaration of Rights was agreed to by the Convention on Novem-
ber 2d, 1776, and the Constitution on November 8th, 1776.

The first General Assembly, under the authority of the State, was
convened by the Council of Safety February, 1777. The Constitution
of 1776 provided that the Assembly should meet annually on the first
Monday of November, and, if necessary, oftener.

JLast meeting of the Assembly under the Proprietary Government. On Juno
18th, 177K, Governor Kden issued writs for a new Assembly to be held on July 25th,
It was his last official act, and the Convention resolved that the writs be' not
obeyed.
