CHIEF VETERINARY INSPECTOR—u33 Harford Avenue,

"Chief Veterinary Inspector,

The Governor appoints one Chief Veterinary Inspector, who holds
his office during the term of the Governor who appoints him. Senate
confirmation not required. (P. G. L-, Art. 58, Sec. 5).

The Chief Veterinary Inspector is required to visit all the stables of
Baltimore City and of the counties -whenever he has reason to believe
contagions or infectious diseases exist. He is the executive officer of
the Live Stock Sanitary Board.

The Board of Trustees consists of the Governor, the Comptroller, the
Treasurer, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of
Delegates, the Attor ney-General and the United States Commissioner

-of Agriculture, ex-officio, and one person appointed by the Governor,
with the coasent of the Senate, from each Congressional District of
the State. The appointments are made two biennially for six years
from the first Monday in May. (Chapter 326, 1888).

STATE HORTICULTURAL DEPARTMENT.
College Park, Maryland.

Chapter 289 of the Acts of 1898 creates a State Horticultural Depart-
ment, which consists of a State Entomologist, a State Pathologist and

-a State Horticulturist, who shall be respectively the professor of Ento-
