The Governor is elected by the people for a term of four years from
the second Wednesday in January next ensuing his election; the Secre-
tary of State is appointed by the Governor and holds his office until
the end of the term of the Governor; the other officers are appointed
by the Governor and hold their office during his pleasure.

GOVERNOR'S STAF*.

The Governor appoints one Quartermaster General, one Chief of
Ordnance, one Inspector General, one Surgeon General, one Judge
Advocate General, r.ll of whom shall have the rank of Brigadier Gen-
eral, and ten Aids with the rank of Colonel, who with the Adjutant
General constitute the Governor's staff. (Chapter 89, 1896).
