FRIDAY, January 26, 1866.
The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev. Mr.
McNemar.
Present at. the call of the roll the following members;
Messrs. Frazier, Speaker, Agnew, Angel, Bartell, Barron.
Buhrman, Calvert, Cairns, Chew, Clift, Comegys, Cook, Cro-
nise, Cummings, Darling, Dean, Eavy, Everhart, Fooks,
Fawcett, Foster, Hambleton, Hazen, Hodson, Hoffman, Hop-
kins, Hynes, Jamison, Jones, Keefer, King, Kirk, Leaverton,
Lee, Lusby, Malone, Markey, McCauley, McCullough. Miller,
of Washington, Mittag, Norris, Parker, Pennington, Pilking-
ton, Poteet, Rider, Rinehart, Roberts, Sherry, Silver, Smith,
.of Allegany, Smith, of Dorchester, Smith, of Frederick, Soper,
Stewart, Tolson, Tull, Valliant, Wardwell, Warner, Watkins,
Williams, Willis, Wilson, Zeigler--66.
The journal of yesterday was read and approved.
' The Speaker laid before the House resolutions of the East
Baltimore Union League, against any modification of the Re-
gistration Law;
Which were read and referred to the committee on Registra-
tion.
Also presented a memorial of Thomas Johnson and. others
of Frederick county for a repeal of the Registry Law;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Registra-
tion.
Also,' the following memorial of St. John's College.
To the Honorable,
The General Assembly of Maryland.
The memorial of the Visitors and Governors of St. John'8
College, Annapolis, incorporated by the Act of 1784, ch. 37,
respectfully represents;
That many of the most distinguished citizens of Maryland,
and public-spirited individuals, as set forth in their Charter,
"being desirous to embrace the favorable occasion of peace
and prosperity for making lasting provision for the encour-
agement and advancement of all useful knowledge and liter-
ature through every part of the State," entered into a con-
tract with the State whereby they paid into the State Trea-
sury large sums of money amounting to about thirty-two
thousand dollars to found this College (as the charter furth-
er states) "in order to train up and perpetuate a succession
of able and honest men for discharging the various offices
and duties of life, both civil and religious with usefulness and
reputation."
