endorsement of this Body; that in embracing this occasion to
express the deep sympathy of the General Assembly, with
the Secretary of State, in the late brutal attempt upon his life,
the Genera] Assembly hails his restoration to health and the
active duties of his station as a source of congratulation to
the people of this whole country; that the General Assem-
bly have abiding confidence in the matured ability and wise
statesmanship of the Honorable W. H. Seward, to maintain
our foreign relations with firmness and judgment, and with-
out compromise of the national honor, and that the General
Assembly awaits the development of the future, in the firm
persuasion that sooner or later no foreign potentate or power,
in the interest of monarchical government, will be permitted
to retain a permanent footing on this continent.
Resolved, That a joint committee of the two branches of
this General Assembly be appointed to present a copy of these
resolutions to. His Excellency Andrew Johnson, President of
the United States, and the Hon. William H. Seward, Secre-
tary of State;
Which were read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Miller, of Anne Arundel,
The resolutions introduced by him on Friday last, in rela-
tion to the policy of President Johnson, were made the order
of the day. for Thursday next, January 18th.
Mr. Jones from the committee on Corporations, reported
favorably a bill entitled, an Act to incorporate the Chesa-
peake Tribe, No. 32, Improved Order of Red Men, of Anna-
polis, Maryland;
Which was read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Robinson,
The rules were suspended, the bill read the second time,
and by special order the third time, and passed by yeas and
nays as follow:
