the cars or carriages of either company, as may up-
pear to said President and Directors convenient
and advantageous.

Power to pur-
chase Engines,
&c.

Sec. 19. And be it enacted, That the President
and Directors shall have power to purchase with
the funds of the said company, and place and on use
any railroad constructed by them under this Act,
all engines, cars, machines, vehicles, or car-
riages of any description whatever, which they
may deem proper for the purposes of transporta-
tion on the said railroad or roads, or any section
thereof, they shall have power to demand and re-
ceive for tolls upon, and the transportation of per-
sons, goods, produce, merchandise, or property of
any description transported on said railroad, or
roads, such sum or sums, of money as they shall
from time to time deem reasonable and proper.

chase and hold
real estate.

Sec. 20. And be it enacted. That the said com-
pany shall have full power to purchase and hold
all real estate necessary for the purposes of the
said railroad, or any of their works, to buy and
build, wharfs, houses and shops for corporate pur-
poses, to purchase and hold steamboats to ply in
connection with the railroads, to any other place
or places whatsoever; and to contract with the
owner or owners of any steamboat and any other
railroad or other company, for transportation and
passage to and from the said roads; and when the
final survey of any part of the said road shall be
made by the company's engineer, such survey
shall be recorded in the Recorder's or Clerk's of-
fice of the county where the land surveyed is situ-
ated, and the record thereof shall be evidence of
the route and limits of the said road, and the said
company are hereby also authorized to own and
run a line of stage coaches between the points
with which said road is intended to connect, and
make such charges for the transportation of pas-
sengers, mails, and other articles, as the said com-
pany may deem advisable.

President to
make affidavit

Sec. 21. And be it enacted, That as soon as the
bona fide subscriptions to the capital stock of the
said company shall amount in the aggregate to
the sum of one hundred and ten thousand, four
hundred and fifty-five dollars, the President of the
said company shall make affidavit that such bona
