CHAPTER 43.
AN ACT supplementary to an Act to incorporate
the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River Tide
Water Canal Company, passed at January ses-
sion, 1866, Chapter 173. |

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Act to incorporate the
Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River Tide Water
Canal Company be. and the same is hereby altered
and amended as follows, to wit : The name of the
said Company is hereby changed to the Chesapeake
and Potomac Canal Company, and all the rights,
privileges, powers and franchises granted to the
said Corporation by the original Act, except as
herein changed, are hereby confirmed to the said
Corporation under its new name, and all the Acts
.and proceedings of the said Corporation shall
enure to, and bind the same, and have effect as if
the name had not been changed. |

Sec. 2. And ie it enacted, That the said Com-
pany in carrying the said Act into effect are here-
by released from the obligation to make the said
canal at least ten feet deep, and forty feet wide at
the bottom, as required in the said Act, and are
hereby authorized to regulate the depth and width
thereof, so as to work the same most. advantage-
ously in connection with the present canals be-
tween Cumberland and New York. |

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That the capital stock
of said Company shall be four millions of dollars,
in shares of one hundred dollars each, and a cash
payment of one dollar on each share shall be made
at the time of subscribing. |

Sec. 4, And be if enacted, That the time allowed
for the completion by said Company of the canal
which they are hereby authorized to make, name-
ly, from the Chesapeake Bay or its tributaries, to
the waters of Anacostia, or the Eastern branch of
the Potomac river, is hereby extended to five years |
