11 nation during the year; few reports of violation of discipline and a large majority of those for minor offences, Our thanks are due to the ministers of the gospel, who give their tune from Sabbath to Sabbath in instructing the inmatesi in religious and moral duties. It is a reproach to the State that we have no chaplain, but are dependent on Christian gentlemen and ministers of religion, who give their time and talents to the spiritual instruction of the convicts. The Sabbath Schools are well attended. They are man- aged by Mr. W. A. Wisong and Mrs. A. Hyde. ' The Libra- ry contains about 2000 volumes and is much used by the prisoners. The Sabbath School teachers deserve the highest praise. The fruits of their work are apparent in the good conduct of many who have been inmates of this Institution. I would call your favorable notice to the creditable manner in which the subordinate officers have discharged their du- ties; notwithstanding the crowded condition of the prison, cleanliness and good order have prevailed. In conclusion, permit me to tender my thanks, for the courtesy, kindness and assistance you have rendered. me in the discharge of my duties, and the great interest you have always manifested in making this a model Institution. M. W. 0. THOMPSON, Warden. |
